suse 9.2 freezes after log in
I have used Linux Suse 9.2 for about six months and find it great to use. I have recently purchased a new PC, Compaq Presario 1420, with an AMD Athlon 64, 300+ processer,Seagate sata hard drive and Asutek Salmon 1.04 motherboard. I have installed Suse 9.2 on and Seagate IDE hard drive and connected it to the ide connection. I am able to boot into the system fine, even managing to log on. This is when the problem starts, I have a screen freeze on the KDE splash screen, which loads or the sections and does not close. I then try to use other applications and I get a scrren of half icons and blurred images which remain on screen. The only solution being to reboot and use windows(yawn). I am able to run knoppix from a live CD with no problems. I have tried loading Suse on the SATA hard drive, but never get beyond the hardware installation when it remains on searching for info for ever. I have managed to install Xandos 3, but I do not really like this distro as it does not contain the necessary software to configure my speedtouch modem. Any help would be great.

Try booting into safe mode and if this works restart and try again to log in normally. It is a long time since i ran suse but i seem to remember this solved the problem for me. Regards Sharke |
