suse 9.2 eval version - need help with boot cd

hey gang,

new to linux here. I downloaded a 3.3bg image of the suse eval version 9.2 iso and cant seem to be able to create a boot cd for linux.

does anyone have the steps to create a boot cd for suse 9.2 (the easy version)? I have all of the data on a dvd with it uncompressed.

i wanted to try this linux stuff out, learn it, and then pass on the good os to family and friends.

thanks for your help. ps, i have nero ultra and alcohol 120% if that helps. trying to install suse 9.2 or .3 onto my dell 700m laptop, i heard it works well.

Well, unless SUSE has changed things, the downloadable ISO image is for burning a Knoppix-like cd (you can't install it, basically the OS is ran off the cdrom). Probably not what you had in mind. You can do a net install.

bunred image as image, not data cd....

I burned the image onto the cd by telling nero to make image, not data cd. the install is running, but 4-5 errors came up during install, like openoffice.org not able to install something and so on.....will this be a problem later on? Is linux a stable system? Do you think the ftp net install is a complete or usable os without limitations?

Right, it would not boot otherwise.

I Really dunno why. If this was a Suse iso image, there would not really be an install. However, you did indicate it's installed so maybe they do have a "limited" installable ISO I'm unaware of.

Linux is very stable as an OS. Software that comes with Linux isn't always stable (there are so many determining factors I will not even start to go into it.) Usually, if you do things right, it generally all works well.

Yes, I have installed it before. Well...I installed 9.1 the last time. Suse is owned by Novell now so who knows if the net install is still available, free, or complete. I would assume it is. I'll leave the leg work to you or someone more up-to-date though.

Ah okay, definately an installable version. Wow, 3 GB! What a waste of bandwidth! Do they let you purchase it after that download?

My advice is the same though, you probably will be able to do the net install for free. It's not user friendly though  But that makes Suse more $$$
