Unhappy SuSe 9.2 crash when opening the console

I am quite new to Linux and i'm having some problems...
I have installed SuSe 9.2. After installation, I restarted and the system booted up normaly.
But when I opened the console (for example), my OS crashes and funny vertical lines (muliple colors) are displayed on my screen!
By the way, I have an nvidia 5700 screen card.

Help will be appreciated very much, thanks.

1) Do any other applications cause this same error?
2) What drivers do you have loaded for the Nvidia Video card, the free one (nv) or the one from Nvidia? This will help out quite a bit.

How did you open the console?
