Suse 9.1 pro networking help

Just installed suse 9.1 pro and i cannot connect to the internet, previously i had suse 9.0 and had no problems with the internet settings cos 9.0 did it for me.

I have configured the network device(not sure if its properly), my computer is connected through a gateway then to the adsl modem, the other computers in my network are connected to the net but mine isnt, and i cant even view their files through samba......
Any help that you could give me would be fantastic
Thanx
Bobby

It looks like suse used ipv6 as a default, You could try to get that working, or dump it and use ipv4. This is from the suse site.

Code:
Quote:
SUSE Linux 9.1 (in connection with Kernel 2.6.x) includes the file /etc/modprobe.conf instead of /etc/modules.conf. If you want to disable IPv6 on a permanent basis in SUSE Linux 9.1, change the file /etc/modprobe.conf as follows: Change alias net-pf-10 ipv6 to alias net-pf-10 ipv6 install ipv6 /bin/true

I hate to do this to you, but now that you've made the changes, could you repost the output of the same commands from earlier. We need to see if it worked, and we need to see your current status.
good luck.

Looks like it didn't take, the output is identical. Did you restart the network services, or reboot the machine since you made the changes? If you did we're going to have to try something else, If you haven't, then try that, then please post just the output from lsmod, and ifconfig -a. Just so you know, I'm looking at the output to see if the ipv6 module has been removed, and if your eth0 interface will accept a standard ipv4 address.
good luck.

Open your /etc/modprobe.conf as root or su -. Then edit this section.

Code:
alias net-pf-1 unix
alias net-pf-3 ax25
# install net-pf-3 /bin/true
alias net-pf-4 ipx
# install net-pf-4 /bin/true
alias net-pf-5 appletalk
# install net-pf-5 /bin/true
alias net-pf-6 netrom
# install net-pf-6 /bin/true
alias net-pf-10 ipv6
# install ipv6 /bin/true
alias net-pf-11 rose
# install net-pf-11 /bin/true
alias net-pf-15 af_key
alias net-pf-17 af_packet
alias net-pf-31 bluez
Specifically these lines.

Code:
alias net-pf-10 ipv6
# install ipv6 /bin/true

to

alias net-pf-10 ipv6
install ipv6 /bin/true
Save changes, then try restarting the network services or machine. And Have a look at the output again.
good luck.
