Suse 9.1 Personal
Hi,
If I buy SUSE 9.1 Personal, will I be able to install new programs as this version doesn't include development tools? Cheers Ant |
Yes of course. If the programs are RPMs it will be no problem. Only if there are any dependencies to other packages. Then you have to solve the dependencies by first installing the other packages and then installing the program you wanted to install first.

What about compiling from source and 'make' files?
|
This can be a problem 'cause usually therefore you need some development tools...

dependences can be a pain when you don't have the full distro. you'll probably want to install apt4SuSE and synaptic. synaptic will give you a nice GUI to work with and apt will work out the depends. http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/ it's not "officially"supported by SuSE, but alot (most?) of the suse developers help maintain the archives.
