SuSE 9.0 Upgrading to Kernel 2.6.1 Problems (Network)

I am having trouble with suse 9.0 and upgrading it to kernel 2.6.1 (soon to try 2.6.2)
The steps I did were: make oldconfig, make xconfig (to select additional options e.g. NTFS Write support),
make bzImage modules modules_install install
That compiled the kernel, and installed it

Reboot into new kernel:::
eth0 - failed (DHCP)
hangs after starting SMB daemon, just before loading KDM

Sys config:

Athlon 1600+
512MB
60GB IDE HDD
8132too network
nvidia graphics
Fresh SuSE 9.0 FTP Install

Already gave up on upgrading suse 8.2, is helpless, this has more sucess though.
Can post boot msg, anything else you need.

Thanks in advance.

Hi

I believe this could be a module problem, maybe wrong modprobe.conf file. Do you have modules-init-tool program. This is a must.

I found this in another topic about 2.6.1 and suse 9.0

SUSE is 2.6 ready. Meaning no need to install module-init-tools.
Got the 2.6.2 patch, see if that helps.
