Suse 9.0 Pro Static IP Set Up Help

Hello Forum,

I have a question that has been stumping me, and I know it is probably one of the most simple things to achieve.

I am running Suse 9.0 Pro and have purchased static IP's, but have been running DHCP because I can't figure out how to set them.

I have them run through a router, and a hub, as I am running 2 different linux boxes, with different linux distro's .

When I used Yast on my Suse box yesterday and set the network card to static instead of dhcp my site went offline.

Can anyone explain to me (like a 6 year old) how to set up my Suse box on static ip?

Any help would be most appreciated.

I have been putting this off, because I have not been very comfortable with making the change, and dhcp was an easy out. But now it is time to set it up correctly, but I can not afford to have my site go buggar offline.

Thank you all in advance.

Cheers,
Shnippy

When you say you have a static IP, how many static IP's did your ISP give you?

If your ISP only gave you 1 IP then its mostly likely to be issued over DHCP - meaning everytime you reboot the modem/router your ISP will allways issue you with the same(Static) IP.

hope that helps

Hi,

Thank you for the reply.

We purchased a block of 5 statis ip's.

I need to set my suse box to static, as i have a website on it.
I have another box with a different distro, that i would also like to set as static.

Thank you for the help.
