SuSE 8.2 problem
I am new to Linux and I tried out Mandrake, and now wanted to try a new distro. I downloaded the boot.iso and burned it for SuSE 8.2. The installation went fine, but the problem is when booting up. The boot up screen appears, and the bar fills, and then the screen flashes to the screen were at the bottom it says "login" and then the screen goes black, and the light on my monitor goes from green to orange. Does anyone know how to fix this problem so I can use SuSE?!

I am able to enter SuSE under a "safe" mode i think it is called...but it is all command line. So why can't I use "normal" mode?

Xserver is barfing. get to the command line in safe mode, log in as root and type -> sax2 to configure your xserver.
|
Typed it in and got this...
SaX: initializing please wait... SaX: startup I then got the black screen again with the orange light...after a few minutes i hit the space bar and it took me back to the command line... |
ok, same thing with sax2 -l
|
brain freeze...how do I do that character? :-X the straight line...it just isn't coming to me...
|
it's the same key as backslash on a us-keyboard : D

well, now that I realize its an L..lmao..i ran SaX2...and i configured it, but when i rebooted...it does the same thing. Flashes the screen where login is, and then black screen with orange light :'(

YAY....well not really. Everytime I run SaX2, it says it can't detect my monitor. I have a Princeton Graphic Systems EO14..but the closest one they have is Princeton Graphic Systems EO15
|
*light bulb goes off* I have a NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX 200....SaX2 detects it, but could that be part of the problem?

in lowres mode, (-l) it doesn't probe for the monitor. it should run in frame buffer mode until you d/l the latest driver for the nvidia. if you have your monitor manual, you may have to enter the frequencies by hand, or at least double check them against the preselected ones that you get when choosing the Eo15. you could try a plain vanilla vesa->800x600 until you get the nvidia drivers installed.

YES! Putting in the values worked perfectly, and now everything is up and running. Thank so much Rshaw!
