SuSE 8.2 - Boot help

I've been having a problem with my mouse... as soon as I boot, I go to X-windows (more correctly, it goes into runlevel 5), and my mouse gets disabled. Unfortunately, so does my keyboard.

So how do I change the runlevel at boot? I just need to boot into a console (init 3).

Can anyone help me out?

highlight 'linux' if it isn't already, then type linux 2 in the box.

...when GRUB (the boot loader) comes up with the blue and white choice screen with the 8 second countdown. Hit a key to stop this, and type in the box at the bottom of the screen.

Hmm... I don't see a box where I can type anything in.

I'm using GRUB 0.93.

It says to press 'e' to edit the commands before booting, and 'c' for a command line.

I tried the command line, and put in both 'linux' and 'linux 2' (no quotes), it doesn't recognize either.

Hitting e brings up a screen with 2 lines, neither of which I understand (things like dma=no (may not have actually said no, but stuff like that), something about the kernel...).

I don't want to edit these without knowing what I'm doing, for fear of messing up my system.

Or a kernel argument...?
Just some way to stop X from starting...

Please can someone help?

EDIT: Yay! I fixed it!

I edited the boot commands in GRUB, and added 'init 3'...

Thanks for your help anyways
