SuSE 8.2 and Resizing Consoles?

I just installed SuSE 8.2 on my new machine. (p4 2.6 w/ Geforce 4 FX 5400) and after a few hours of trying, I finally got most things the way I like them.

My big problem? If I try to use the online update to update my video drivers my consoles either turn to enlarged, oversized fonts (tiny resolution size) or become completely scrambled.

Without updating I get the Xwindows screen size I like, but the console is still at 640x480 or close enough to it. I really need at least 800x600 or larger.

Is there any way to set the console screen resolution? Can't find anything in yast.

Thanks

I wouldn't know how SuSE handles these
things these days :) ... but basically the
console fonts are a matter of kernel and
lilo.conf .... if your kernel supports framebuffer
devices all you need to do to enable them
is an appropriate line in lilo.conf, run lilo
again, and voila :}

Cheers,
Tink

SuSE uses GRUB instead of lilo. I found the grub startup file by way of following another post when I did a search. The problem is I change the VGA= from 0x314 it currently is to 0x317 or 0x31A (both modes are already available in X so I know the video driver can display it) and when I boot I get a message about having an invalid size and I'm given a list of about 9 very poor sizes (80 by X).

Anyone have any ideas?
