suse

if i can't get redhat 9, or fc6, and i don't want kubuntu, i'll get suse. i've got suse 10.2 cd1 burnt, but when i try to get a network install i point it to download.opensuse.org for the ip address, and /distribution/10.2/iso/cd for the folder and it gives me an error saying HTTP network error: 302 Found. What does this mean and how do i fix it?

Take a look at the detailed instructions for internet installation:
http://en.opensuse.org/INSTALL_Internet

Also, you are trying to use the wrong directory on the server.
The directory *should* be /pub/opensuse/distribution/10.2/repo/oss

If the need arises, you can IM me- timothyb89 (yahoo) and timothyb89@hotmail.com (MSN)

EDIT: If you want to use a faster server, such as kernel.org here's the details:
Link: ftp://mirrors.kernel.org/opensuse/di...10.2/repo/oss/
Protocall: ftp
Server: mirrors.kernel.org
Directory: opensuse/distribution/10.2/repo/oss/
IP: 204.152.191.7

And the info about opensuse.org servers is incorrect. Here's the real directory:
Open-source: /distribution/10.2/repo/oss/
Non Open-source (this will save you some problems later): /distribution/10.2/repo/non-oss/
For the non-oss, in one of the first install screens, you will be asked for additional install media. Enter these details for it.

And to answer your second question:
On the Install Overview screen, on the partitioning secontion, click the link. The installer lets you choose a custom setup. Have the installer format hda1 as ext3 and make sure you have a swap partition of at least the same size as your amount of RAM.
