I haven't done SuSe in a while, so I hope this helps.

The bootloader screen should be an image file "/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz". You can unzip it, and edit it, save, and rezip. The login screen for gdm I'm not too sure about, but I think it is configurable inside /etc/init.d/gdm.

Sorry if I'm steering you wildly, it's been a few years for SuSe.

For grub the splashimage is set in /boot/grub/menu.lst

For GDM, you should be able to access the properties directly from the log in screen or if not, there should be some option for log in window properties in the Administration menu.

OK, on my system (Fedora 7) menu.lst is a symlink to grub.conf.
