Surfing gets slower and slower

Wondering if anyone ran into this problem. When surfing the web, it starts out at normal speed and then after about 10 minutes, the browser gets slower and slower. Finally, when you click on a button, it takes about 30 seconds before even the button responds.

Also the hardrive is constantly working.

It's as though something gets filled up and won't accept anymore data.

Running RH8 minimal install and a pIII, 933mhz, 512ram, 40gb drive.

Thanks!

Which browser, and what type of a connection are you running? It's been noted before that KDE seems to cache everything, this might be part of the problem. However, there are too many other possible variables (do you run a cache proxy server?) that might help to answer the question.

Tell us a bit about your network setup, and your window manager.

Cool

Sounds like a VM/Cache issue. When this happens, can you run vmstat in a shell and show us the output?

I'm running Mozilla right now with a dialup. I first noticed this when I had RH7 and Netscape. Then, I installed RH8 and it was fine until I added a second user just two days ago. (I'm the only user) When I ran Mozilla from the second user's position, the slow down began. Just like it did back when I had RH7.

After about 10 minutes on the Internet, things start acting weird. You click any browser button and nothing happens. Let it sit for about a minute and the button finally indents, acknowledging the click a minute ago. And from there on, all the functions take on this delayed action until I reboot, then the same cycle over again.

Now, I deleted the second user and it seems ok again.

Thanks for the replies.
