Super quick question....

I used to know shell script real well, and just today I came across some of my anciet programs on a floppy. If you want to execute a shell script file, what is the command
i seem to remember jsut having to type the name, but that isnt working.

cd into the directory where the script file is and run ./<script_name>

Occasionally you will need to invoke it with the shell in which it was written. For example, if you're running bash and the script was written for sh, then you might need to issue sh <script_name> instead.

your signature sucks.
do like the others saied:
sh <script> or make a single dot instead the 'sh' ( means execute )
further you should mark your script with #! /bin/sh at the very beginning of it !
and be sure the script has executable file attribs ...
your script will execute without 'sh' or '.' , when you set your
path to it right, or copy the script into a folder where $PATH is pointing to.
echo $PATH
and to set: export PATH=$PATH:/newpath/scripts:.:/more
':' is delimiter and funny we set '.' to path, so your cwd is in scope.

hope that'll help you.
Fishy.

That was uncalled for and no personal attacks are welcome here. Read the rules you agreed to when signing up. http://www.linuxquestions.org/rules.php

We like opinions, but when you make a personal attack, that isn't cool. And watch your language too please, this is a public forum. We don't want to offend anyone.

first I called NO NAME, so I did not attack someone !
second - spam is not okay, too.
now you just might imagine what signature I meant.
Never the less... I gave an answer that might bring Daniel onwards,
so where is the problem ?
I think that's no attack - my opinion.
its boring writing things like:
"oh, what a cool signature - and so tiny..."
and everybody just knows what it really means:
"SHI****"
But you're also right, maybe a bit too hard.
Letz stop that thread here - you're right, I feel flamed - I'm sorry LOL
lets talk about computers again....

Well, a signature represents someone in most cases. Were here to answer questions or ask questions, not make remarks to people's signatures. I don't like alot of sig's but I don't go around telling people their's sucks, so lets just leave it be.

And what thread was that in ? No reason to make this thread get off topic. If you have a question, start a new thread please.

Because it wasn't here, you only have 9 posts and none of them refer to anytype of avi question. And the quotes are not for you, but for others.
