Sun Storedge 3300
 

OS is CentOS 5.4 x64 bit.
I want to access my sun storedge 3300 from linux. Can I access it from the network if connected to router or do I need to run a scsi cable from the Sun Storedge 3300 to the linux box? I cant seem to find the Sun System Manager software anywhere on the internet. Some body please help.

Also if anyone familiar with this 3300 is it a NAS or SAN?

Haven't used this myself but most links I find about it show it is SCSI connected such as the following:

That one specifically shows it is Ultra 320 SCSI. If it is SCSI attached it is neither NAS nor SAN.

SAN = Storage Area Network
This means it isn't usually directly connected to a server but rather attach via fibre topology. (There are point to point fibre connections that could be used for fibre storage but then it isn't truly "SAN".)

NAS = Network Attached Storage
This is a storage array that is presented via NFS or CIFS network shares to servers.

To attach the 3300 you'd need to have an Ultra 320 SCSI card in your server. Many commercial grade servers come with Adaptec or other SCSI controllers built in - you'd have to check the specifications for your system. What you can do if you don't have it in this server but do on another one is attach to the other server via SCSI then share out the drives via NFS to the one you want it on.
