Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

The pointer becomes immovable, I am still able to launch the terminal via ctrl+alt t
I am also able to access internet by using arrow & enter key, & can still type and of course if I the plug in usb mouse the system is sompletely usable..
And external usb mouse is no help? I ask because on my atom netbooks with after market chinese chargers that are not stock Original Equipment Manufacturer (aka OEM).
I get a IRQ conflict is my best guess when I plug in the a/c charger and my touchpad freezes and pointer freezes up.
I get by while charging the battery using a cheapo finger mouse. Any usb mouse though will do. My pointer works again
right after I plug in my external finger mouse. Then when I am on battery. My touchpad works again.
Finger mouse are pretty from China also on ebay and ship worldwide.
We installed MX-14 yesterday & it has been shutdown twice & so far the touchpad is working. However all was OK with most of the others for a few shutdowns, so early days. I have resisted so to install updates as I just wanted to see how it went for a day or 2 first. All the other distros I updated immediately after installation. The only thing so far is the sound is too low but is on full
At the moment I am not having touchpad freeze, but if the problem comes back I will report back what output I get with the above command
The sound is now fine, except in skype (no sound at all), but will try some fixes with this later today
Had MX14 installed for 11 days & NO TOUCHPAD FREEZE, I didn't do any updates for over a week to make sure all was running OK, did updates yesterday & still no freeze
So thumbs up for MX14 - only issue I have is no sound in skype (neither speakers nor mic)
the above poster said i should install pulse audio which I found help for & worked through the how to....but it has not worked....any suggestions??
I do hope that situation changes because it is a fine distro, regardless of what hardware, young or old, that it is running on.
I hope so, it kept (counting) five, maybe six boxes from the scrap...it's one of those distros that has a severe invironmental message in keeping older boxes functional...
If that's not a reason to get into it, I dont know
