Suggestions for installing/compiling on RedHat

Hello

I'd like to experiment with downloading a file (program?) from the internet and installing (or compiling) it. I've got RedHat 8.0 (with the Gnome desktop) dual-booted with Windows. Perhaps a small game or something. Any suggestions or advice appreciated.

Thanks
Dan

hi Dan_471, welcome to lq. i'd suggest downloading and installing something you need, or want, and don't have. have a look here

http://rpm.pbone.net/

and here for some ideas of things may need, and don't have

http://linuxshop.ru/linuxbegin/win-l...en/table.shtml

good luck.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm going to try "MFCTI1.16CoopEveron.zip" (supposed to be a platform independent game), and "Nethack Linux". We'll see what happens.

Thanks for the advice.
I'm going to try bsd-games

http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/PLD/dis...13-1.i686.html

Am I on the right track? I've heard I have an i686. Is there a way that I can check that out? Does it matter?
