Red face suggest me reminder for linux


hi,

i m using mandrake 10.0. i m in a quest of a reminder which runs in a background........n it should remind me even if the application is closed. u got me? right now i m using gnome personal information manager........but the prob is if i forget to open it .....it doesn't remind me n even if i run it in background it opens an window which i dont want to get open every time.....urgent help is needed .........

Hello Ranger225,

It is not that complicated, just start the program automatically at startup.

I remember that you can do that by adding the command to /etc/rc.d/rc.local

but the prob is i should keep it open

thanx dummy-in-linux,

but the prob is i shud keep it open .......if i m not wrong? i want the reminder which should run in background.......like the ultra calender reminder......

If you add the program to /etc/rc.d/rc.local as instructed and use this format:
nohup myprog &

the /etc/rc.d/rc.local file gets run automatically every time the system re-boots, so you can't forget

thanx...but if i run tht prog in bacground

thanx....but if i run program in background it opens an window.........n i dont want tht window to get opened 4 all the time.......n if i closed tht window the program exits......i want to run tht prog in bg without opening an window
