Suddenly no network

I have installed a debian woody and it worked just fine with samba and apache.
Nut suddenly I coud not get access to the server from other parts of the network.
From the debian box it self I could not either get acces to the network.
It seems that I have deactivated the network card - but where have I done that?
Which conf-files should I check?

Maybe the network card just died. I've replaced one a few weeks ago. Try opening the case, remove the card, clean the contacts and put it back. Try a "lspci" to see if the card is listed, if it's not, it's time for a new one :)

Does not seem to make differences

Removing , cleaning and inserting the network card did not produce any difference.
:-(
I've just initiated cron and installed the webmin-package "mon" before everything got disconnected.
Does that give anyone a clue?
