Successful ping to proxy but cannot go to internet
I can ping to my proxy server successfully but i cannot ping to "outside" ip address. Even if i set the firefox proxy settings, i still cannot go to "outside" address.
And as for the question: can you please provide more info?
With the info you've given you might as well be trying to
use Exploder through an MS ISA machine ;}
What proxy are you using, how have you set it up, do the
logs of your proxy suggest any activity at all? What distribution
are you running the thing on?
and do you try to ping an address (like 193.99.144.80) or a domain name (like "heise.de")
if you try the latter, your dns server be not be set correctly.
many internet sites also block ping, the above (heise.de) does not.
the machine that i am trying to connect to the proxy server is running on fedora core 4. the proxy server is running on redhat. All the other pc running on windows in the same network are able to go to the internet. i can ping to the proxy server but i cant go to the internet
Who's looking after the proxy, does the proxy require credentials
for the windows users? And again: what do the log-files of the
proxy say, anything regarding your machine in the logs?
there is an administrator looking after the server.however, it makes no sense that when i log in using the windows machine, it can access internet but when i log in using the fedora machine, i cant access the internet. i can ping to the proxy but i cant go to the internet.when i open the firefox, it prompts me the user id and password to log in to my proxy server. i provide it with the exact user id and password, but when i pressed enter, it prompt me again.
And how does the authentication from the windows machines work?
Do you need to enter credentials? And again: what do the logs
of the proxy say? The fact that you don't know how it's set-up
doesn't necessarily mean that "it makes no sense".
