"su" from non-root users takes longer

Hi,

It seems that whenever I su from a non-root user to another the system takes time(about 5 seconds) to authenticate the user. Using Redhat Enterprise Linux 3 ES Update 5.

How can I decrease this delay time?

Note:There is no time delay on a "small" Dual processor system with 1GB RAM with the same version of RHEL. However,on a quad processor system with 4GB RAM I have this situation.

Thanks...

When suing from root, there is no authentication because root can become anyone without authenticating. When you are user, authentication is necessary.
