Stupid question about *.PPC designation...
 

I just read somewhere that distroname.PPC is for Apples?

Is this right?

If this is the case, where can I get a PC version of Mandrake 8.2?

Or does this not exist?

Then, if that is the case (Hope you're still following along) then what about Mandrake 9.0? Any comments regarding that for a newbie?

And does anyone want the Mandrake 8.2 PPC ISO's I just downloaded? :mad: Contact me.

The PPC is Mac's architecture. There are versions of linux for MANY different architectures out there, part of the greatness of linux and it's versatility.

The "PC" version of any distro is going to be located under a folder called "x86" or "i386" "i486" "i586" and/or "i686" The difference being how advanced your CPU is. IF you've got a relatively new processor, you'll want to try to get i686, however you may only find i386 or i486, no worries as these work fine.

Go to your favorite Mandrake Mirror, look up the tree until you see a mandrake-iso folder. Nine times outta ten, these will contain normal x86 images that will work on a PC.

Just about every distro I've come across has at least an x86 version. There are some, like Mandrake, who have also put out other verisions such as Alpha for the alpha processors, and PPC for Mac's.
