Stupid move in rc.local

My brains left me when I did this:

I am running a Fedora 8 machine and I wanted to have the MYSQL daemon start up automatically upon boot up. I installed MYSQL from source so I decided to list the command in rc.local instead of wrting an init script for it.

The command I put in rc.local was the same command that I use to execute it at the command line:

/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqld_safe -user=mysql &

I think the ambersand in the command is what is causing the problem because now, after the grub loader boots the kernel, everything just hangs. I see a Fedora blue desktop screen with an arrow (the mouse Pointer)but that is it....no Linux :{

Do I want to boot into runlevel 3? That doesn't seem write to me because regardless if X starts, my boot process is still going to hang....right?

Is there something easier then booting from an install disk?

You should be able to hit "i" during the boot process to enter interactive startup, then don't allow rc.local to start.
