stupid imac - xorg woes

so i FINALLY got the stable (4.0?) debian installed on my imac g3/g4 in a base install then ran

Code:

apt-get install xserver-xorg xfonts-base gnome gdm
after that long (about 2 hour) install i ran gdm and got a black screen with no errors and even a ctrl+alt+backspace didnt show any errors i looked at my xorg.conf and it looks good so i compared it to....

http://pingswept.org/xorgconf-for-xubuntu-on-g3-imac/

and its almost identical... with a few minor differences...

please help.... thanks

ps. i got the computer at a yard-sale i know little of its details....

So this is where you get to help others:

1. WHAT were the differences between your downloaded screen and the baseline you were comparing it to?

2. WHAT did you do to resolve the differences, and HOW?

important parts ill bold face

Code:

# /etc/X11/xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
# values from the debconf database.
#
# Edit this file with caution, and see the /etc/X11/xorg.conf manual page.
# (Type "man /etc/X11/xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
#
# This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
# if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg

# If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
# again, run the following command:
#  sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
