Question Stupid Email Problems

Help!

When I make my internet connection it seems that my system is automatically downloading my email, and the only way I can view it is with Pine or Mutt. i.e. I open Kmail and check mail and I have no new messages. I open Pine, and there are 47 messages there. Pine is nice...or was when I was in College. Unfortunately, in the days of HTML mail etc, it won't cut it for me!

Does anyone have any ideas to solve my problems? Should I remove both Pine and Mutt? I am running SuSE 8.2 and changed the mail transfer option to no connection, but that hasn't helped. Do I need to delete Pine and Mutt?

I have only been using Linux for a few days now, and have been dealing with the email problem, but won't be able to do so. It would be a shame to have such a nice system be unusable because of email difficutly.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Steve

Nah, I'd keep pine/mutt. You (most likely) have the messages in /var/spool/username

And you just need to setup kmail to read em. It't fairly straight forward, but if you have any problems post back and I'll be glad to walk you through it.

Cool

Thanks for the tip MasterC. I think I can figure that out. I haven't tried it yet, but will if I need to.

Today when I connected I opened kMail first, and what do you know, all my mail downloaded. I don't know if this was a quirk or it will work every time, but I'll be sure to pass the word on if anyone else has similar difficulties.

Also, I wanted to apologize if it seemed that I was knocking Pine/Mutt. As a text only email reader I have always liked Pine. I guess I've gotten used to the eye candy from Windows, and especially Mac OS.
