stupid cdrom problem


K my new linux machine cannot read a cd from the cdrom drive. Its linux mandrake 10. I know that its not a mount or umount problem but it cant read any of my cds. Help

I hope its not damaged. Mandrake 9.2 burned out my cdrom drive. Others had the same thing happen to them. Does your cdrom drive light turn on at all?

yep im sure

Yea same thing happened to me with 9.2 it killed my compaq cdrom drive. No it didnt kill this one it still works. But if i insert a cd and then click on my cdrom icon it just shows a blank windows like there is nothing on the cd. Just cant seem to read it.

Have you got any other OS on the hardrive to test the cdrom with?

Its fixed!!! Very odd but somehow the cd burner program K3b recognized my cdrom drive and now it can read stuff....
