HEELLLLPPP.

I have the same problem on fedora core 3. I'm stuck in TWM and want to get back to gnome. I have even just

yum remove gnome-desktop

rebooted

and

yum installed gnome-desktop

and still no change. Keeps going to twm.

Are you using a graphical display manager such as kdm or gdm or whatever? You can *clickety click* change the default window manager or desktop environment rather easily like that. If not, try the following commands:

echo "exec gnome-session" > ~/.xinitrc
startx

or install gdm/kdm/xdm/etc.

dj_prime, your post (with an response I think is addressed to you) has been moved out to a separate thread.

The default window manager is set by a number of scripts. It looks that in your case it's not changes to gnome when you reinstall it. Now, does the trick esje showed work?

what reasons will cause twm being the default

Hi everyone,
I wonder why twm is always the default on my computer. At the beginning, I thought the OS may be the problem. So Fedora core 3, and Debian3.1 were installed in turn. But it didn't work! Are there any other reasons for this problem? The video card is too old to run the kdm?
Please help me to fix the problem. I want to use kdm manager.
Thanks

james
