Don't reinstall. If you just need to restore the mouse wheel function, you need a line like this in your Mouse section:

Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"

This is very common question - do a quick Search here at LQ and I can guarantee you will find a lot of existing threads asking this very question. Good luck with it. -- J.W.
