Streaming WMA

Just wondering if someone could show me how to play a streaming song from the internet. Barely got Linux working 2 or 3 days ago. When I click on the play link, it gives me a download link instead--about 600 kb-- and is a .aif file i think. I have SUSE Linux 9.1 installed and have XMMS as well. Thx in advance.

Streaming AIF files

If you want to stream pretty much any audio, I've found the best program is realplayer. Don't worry, its not a bloated version like in windows. If you dont have it installed, just use the SuSE package manager (YaST I think? Havent used SuSE in a while) or get it from http://www.real.com. Then just copy the link location, run realplayer, click File > Open Location > then paste the address in there.

If your getting the D/L or Open with option. Choose Open With and type in the field:

/usr/bin/xmms

then choose always use this option box... then it should open XMMS everytime you click on the file. You may have to do this for other file formats that you want to stream as well.

Okay, so I tried streaming a real file from the internet and when it gave me that "Save as..." and "Open with" box, I clicked on "Open with", typed in /usr/bin/xmms and then the player opened...then, the xmms playlist manager came up and asked what to play. What should I do now?

Oh and also, I've seen a video from the same website and I can see the video, but still no sound. Thx in advance.

Was the playlist blank or did it have the web url inside? Was the now playing windows scrolling anything?

Also you may want to try another player other then xmms and see if it is something outside of xmms causing the problem. Try saving the file to disk and play it that way first, then work on the streaming...

Well, the playlist was blank and it gave me the directory to my documents. There was nothing scrolling in the window and I have tried other players like amaroK, kaffeine, and noaton. Nothing works. Also, there's no sound on anything, I just figured that out a couple of hours ago. I'm guessing it's my sound card but I don't know what to do about it.
