STRANGE: Programs starting with K will not print

This is a strange one. I may be a newbie, but it is still strange. Open Office prints, but KWrite does not. Galeon, Opera and Firefox print, but Konqueror does not. Pan prints, but KNode does not. Netscape Mail prints, but KMail does not. Neither does KGhostView print.

The only program that begins with the letter K that prints for me is the printer section of KDE Control Center that prints a test page.

All others, instead of printing, produce the following pop up:
A printer error occurred. Error message received from system.
Error while reading filter description for true. Empty command line
received.

Of course, the command line is empty, since I have never even attempted to use the command line interface to print. I would not even know how to do that.

Does anyone have the slightest clue as to what is wrong or how to fix it? They must all have some setting or applet in common that is off its rocker. Yet, as I said, even KDE Control Center can print, but all the other K programs cannot. I do not like copying and pasting everything into Open Office every time I want to print something.

I must confess that I did change the printer from color printing to draft black printing recently, if that may have created the problem, but why would it not affect the other programs as well. The printer prints perfectly in black. It will not print in color until HP sends me a new ink cartridge, since their technical support people believe my color cartridge is messing up my color printing (even my black printing in the color mode). I should have that in about six days at the latest. Then I will go back to color, hopefully with this new weird problem solved. By the way, I did attempt to go back to printing in color, in doing so, the other programs printed with totally screwed up colors from the defective ink cartridge but the K programs still did not print.

are you using CUPS or LPRNG ?
most programs starting with 'K' will be part of the K desktop environment.
if KDE printer settings are not correct, then K's applications are not correct;y setup since they all use the centralised KDE print configureation (in the controll center)

if you use CUPS make sure that CUPS is selected in COntroll center,
if LPRNG, then make sure that is set.

also. if you use CUPS, check the settings by pointing your web browser at http://127.0.0.1:631

also... make sure you havnt done somthing stupid like set Kwrite or whatever to print to File instead of print to printer.
