Strange noise while CPU is idle on Dell C600 running Fedora Core 1
After installing Fedora Core 1 on my Dell latitude C600 machine a few days ago, I noticed a high-pitched noise emitting from my system. It seems to only occur when the CPU is idle, but I cannot figure out how to shut it off. After searching around for a while, I found a thread that contained a possible fix, which I would like to try, but I do not know how/where to go to implement this change. I have posted a link to the post I am interested in implementing, and also the contents of the part I am interested in trying below. If anyone could enlighten me as to how to do this, I would really appreciate it.
Re: 2.5.69 strange high tone on DELL Inspiron 8100 From thread: "With your analysis of the problem I was able to remove the noise by using the "apm=idle-threshold=100" parameter on the kernel commandline. This turns off APM idle calls without requiring kernel recompilation. " How do I access the "kernel commandline" to implement this parameter? Thanks in advance! -Ryan |
assuming, you asre running grub, you can put that line into your grub.conf file, and reboot.
