Why do you want to install this source?
What kind of sound device do you have?
What have you tried in the past year other than install something from source that can be installed using your package manager?
Are you just ranting or do you want help to get it to work?
If you want to get it to work, post some relevant information.

What I'm getting at, is that there are a multitude of different angles to troubleshooting sound issues. The only thing you've mentioned trying so far is installing/reinstalling alsa.
After a year of playing with Alsa and still not having sound should make a person think that it might just not be an Alsa problem.
I've been hanging around these forums for quite some time and have rarely found Alsa to be the root of most sound issues, very rare.
I really didn't think I was being harsh, but sorry if I come across this way. I am trying to beat more information out of you and don't want to pay for a trip to Kenya to club you in order to get it. Just trying to make your wish come true.

And I'm not a Guru, I've started three threads since I joined, the last one was in May 09/2005. I know how to read and write, and comprehend what I read. Combine that with Google and there is no need to ask. I'm too impatient to wait for the wrong answer in a forum full of members looking to add another post under their belt rather than actually help, that could take days...even a year.
