Mandrake 9.1 still won't connect to the internet. I've found the elusive mgmt.o file and placed it in the /usr/share/speedtouch/ folder as instructed by both Mandrake and you helpful forum dudes but it still won't connect and I'm getting p@#'ed off now.

In the setup wizard...

Provider name - Just type "BT" I assume?
Provider dns 1 (optional) what's this do I need something here
Provider dns 2 (optional) again???
Account Login - type my BT user name... yes?
Password - My BT account password

can anyone confirm the above or offer anyother ideas why Mandrake won't connect when it is reconising the USB Speedtouch modem.

Please someone help me not go back to MS Windows and have the answer.

speedtouch seems a strange beasty under linux. This is what i do to get my speedtouch working.

Mandrake control centre >network&internet >drakconnect > wizard > make sure auto detect selected - uncheck expert - next.

It will detect adsl connection (and nics if u have any) > next - choose alcatel speedtouch usb - provider name - whatever - i left provider dns blank first time round - it filled it for me once it connected. Account login and password is whatever u filled in windows for your connection. press next. This is where it asks for configuration of network card (i'll skip this bit)

Finally it ask u how u would like to connect the net - obviously adsl - then connection a boot choose yes. THIS IS THE IMPORTANT BIT. Asks u if u would like to connect now. I always choose NO.

Once mandrake has finished configuring and you click ok to accept configuration - reboot. It should establish connection as its booting into mandrake. Once its loaded try clicking on mozilla or another internet based program.

I can't say if this will work for u, but it definately works for me. I've never been able to get speedtouch to work without rebooting. I wish u luck.

just an end note. if u configure network stuff in mandrake control centre - seems to turn off adsl as well, which means u have to reconfigure speedtouch.

They work brilliantly and are so hassle-free it's unbelievable. All you need is cat5 cable and a nic.

Before you say anything about the Speedtouch, yes, I used to own one, and yes, I got it to work under Mandrake (9.0 it was then), and No, I would never go back after an all-in-one ADSL modem/router.

The choice is yours.

Re-installed Mandrake and... Woohooo!!!!!!!! Huston we have connection. My first online Linux experience and yes, it was good for me too!

I had the same problem!

After upgrading from 9 to 9.1 (mandrake) I lost my connection info. Anyway Managed to get it working! Was just about to re-install Mandrake (again)!

Anyway All I had to do was reboot. Somehow the ADSL did not connect until I reboot just like mike@wales said! Cheers mate!
