Step-by-step directions to installing dial-up modem driver in Xubuntu & Ubuntu
My dial-up modem is not recognized by Xubuntu.
I found the drivers in WindowsMe: wdmmdmld.vxd and vmm32.vxd (vcomm.vxd)
I have been able to download wdmmdmld.vxd to a flashdrive (called TravelDrive by Xbtu). I don't have vmm32.vxd, but let's hope I won't need it. Anyway, one step at a time.
Exactly where (and how) do I place wdmmdmld.vxd in Xbtu to have the modem recognized?
I also have Ubuntu that I haven't yet installed and would appreciate the same step-by-step directions for Ubtu.
Being completely new to Linux, I'll appreciate as many baby steps as possible.
Thank you very much.
Being honest I believe it will be near impossible to make a windows modem driver work in Linux. I would suggest using one of the following modem 'scan tool'
They have free drivers for a lot of the modems, I think most of the free drivers are at 14k and can be upgraded to 56k at an additional charge.
