Steam is not opening for me without an error message

So today there was an update for Dota 2, and this caused issues for many users. It gave me an error that said the download was corrupted, so i looked up a way to fix this issue, and tried two things, one was changing where i downloaded things from in the steam settings, and then the other was typing steam --reset into the control panel and then resetting my computer. After that, steam will not open for me what-so-ever, it doesn't give me an error or anything. I typed steam into the console, and it put out /usr/bin/steam: line 194: /home/forerunner66/.local/share/Steam/steam.sh: Success. I have no clue what the hell I'm doing with Linux, I just started using it, so please use very basic language.
