startx problem
 

hi,
i am using fc3.i changed the /var/lyx/* files permissons to 755 as root. as there was an error in installin the lyx of my pc.
now i m facing some problems. i was not able to run startx.sfter i changed the /etc/inittab run lavel to 5 i am able to work with restrictions. i am not able to shutdown from the user login only logof active.
further, my lcd display is getting off for a few seconds ramdomly after doin the above permisson changes.
your, suggestions are welcome.

What errors, specifically, do you get when you try startx?

i did it but no status change. i switched to fc5 toguh n everuthin is back to norma... the installation was deslayed so does the responce...
