startx on Gentoo guest (VirtualBox) giving STRANGE errors , please help :(

Hey everyone

I was able to install Gentoo Linux and xorg-server on my VirtualBox VM,but after I configured xorg.conf as per the instructions on the Gentoo Wiki for VirtualBox and I ran startx, the screen flashes for a second and then X server crashes and I get an error like this:

Code:
Fatal server error:

Caught signal 11. Server aborting

waiting for X server to begin accepting connections
giving up
xinit: Connection reset by peer (errno 104): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error

here is my .kernel config file from /usr/src/linux/.config:

http://pastebin.com/f64f7a5a2

and my xorg.conf file:

http://pastebin.com/f1b452167

and my Xorg.0.log file:

http://pastebin.com/f617c1000

any ideas on how I should go about fixing this problem? All help is GREATLY appreciated!!!!

Change your video card driver to 'vesa' in the xorg.conf file and try again, if it works then you selected the wrong driver or it auto-selected the wrong one. This is probably the most common error for xorg.

Thanks Affinity,

Your suggestions worked for me. I suffered a lot and your suggestion of 'vesa' worked for me.

thanks
