startx gives me frozen _

Been a PCLINUX user for a while. Tried to install new scannersoft. Well now, when I start up, I get
"localhost login:"
I fill my username and get
[michiel@localhost ~] _
I fill "startx" and get a frozen _
How do I come back to the normal login?
thx

since you have said that you give startx command it means that you are starting GUI from CLI. Is xfs service on ????
Also what is the error that you get?
