startup takes forever

after installing the nforce drivers for my mobo, redhat 9 takes a lot longer to boot. when sendmail is being started it takes a least 5 min to go on to the next service to start. the same thing with starting sm-client (send mail client maybe?). anyways i was wondering how would i disable it from being started up.

thanks

i think you'd use the chkconfig utility to disable it on redhat... here's a good article on it:

http://www.linuxjournal.com/article.php?sid=4445

or you could remove sendmail completely:

rpm -e sendmail

thanks for the reply, ill try it as soon as i can. whenever i try to use the rpm -e command though, it never seems to work. i think im doing it right. rpm -e filename.rpm.

anyways thanks for the help

you only specify the ".rpm" extension when installing (-i) a package, not when removing (-e) one...

RIGHT:

rpm -e example

(you don't need the original package when you run this)

WRONG:

rpm -e example-1.3-i386.rpm

RIGHT:

rpm -i example-1.3-i386.rpm

(you need the package to be in the current directory when you run this)

WRONG:

rpm -i example
