it's time to take out and use your recovery disk. boot the system using your recovery disk and install a new kernel.

Better re-install the Os if u wont have any critical data

I'm sorry, but this makes no sense. There are a bazillion reasons for having a problem like this---I have never fixed a Linux system by installing a new kernel....

snyBank;
We would need some more information about your system--eg is it dual-boot, what OSes, etc.?

Also, we would need the exact error message.

pixellany, you're right. a kernel panic can be caused by various reasons. the only reason that i said that because it worked for me once. you see, i once used a development kernel with my hardware and it caused a kernel panic. rebooting didn't do any good. i installed a new kernel and that solved my problem. i'm really sorry if i made a generalization out of it. thank you for correcting me.
