starting x

In an attemt to change screen resolutions I aparently did not check to start x when exiting the video desiplay window. When I rebooted the graphics did not start.
I had this happen once before and got it to run by loging in as root, then password, then .....startx... This time it did not work. I was able to put in ...reboot.... and then booted off the cd and did the upgrade so to configure the x. I badly need to learn how to handle a text type of log in with out panic, is there a simple way to get back into graphics and KDE.

I also now have a long list of choices to edit out of lilo, ...........linux, old linux etc, and windows and old windows.

I probably am one who windows was aimed at, but am just so sick of microshaft and what it stands for and wanted a better way to go. thanks John.

i think if your asking how to get back into X from the command, you can just type startx,

if you want to start out in X with the graphical login, you can edit your /etc/inittab file to start in runlevel 5 and not 3...

then save changes and run telinit to make the changes.. reboot.. and it should start in X...

hope that is what your wanting to know.

THANKS....I noted this in a note book I am keeping. wish there was some sort of small note book type of guide for linux that contained common commands that the untrained X-windows98 people could use to get them selves out of trouble with.
Something indexed to get us out of trouble. for me linux is almost like having to start over. I have found surfing with linux is so much better. If I dont like pop up's, I just turn them off ,unlike windows you need one more bugy program running while you surf to do that. Pop up stopper in windows stops some of them, konqueror when you turn them off, they are all off. John
