I too chose Libranet because it's Debian-based.

I'll buy the latest version of Libranet (hopefully 3.0 will out in the near future, including the latest Linux kernel) when I'm used to linux.

Having a somewhat outdated version is a very good thing because it makes you learn how to upgrade, use apt-get (to get the updated libraries that will be used for all your new apps) or install binary files.

Libranet doesn't spoonfeed you but is easy to install and use for Linux newbies.
