Hallo everyone, am new to Linux and this is my first post.
I have managed to configure a vpn connection on my Acer Aspire one running Linpus lite following instruction from http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...re-one-671585/
The problem is i can only start my vpn session from command line. Is there any way i can have the command am using (sudo vpnc <myvpn>) associated to an icon that i can click, on the desktop and have the command run in the background to start my vpn session?
Sure you can. I don't know Linpus, but normally you can create a shortcut to a script. And that script can contain the commands you usually use. Then throught the filemanager you should be able to drag and drop it as a shortcut in your desktop (shift-alt-drag).
Do you have NetworkManager in Linpus? It should be able to create a VPN... tried right clicking the network icon on your bar (if there is one)? Sometimes NetworkManager needs an extra plugin to create VPNs, did you check in the options for installing new packages? Like the package network-manager-pptp in Ubuntu.
Thank you for your response. Unfortunately in linpus there is no option to create vpn connection from the network manager. I had tried all different ways i could think of. After a lot of research and Google I managed to get it to work using the procedure as described in my first post. My VPN connection works and i connect without a problem but i have to do all this from command line. linpus has a funny way of adding icons to the desk top.you can not drag and drop, You have to edit the XML file and specify the sequence # it's a whole different procedure. i have never written a script in Linux. would you please give some guidance on how to write a script.I know that linpus running on my acer is based on Fedora release 8 (Werewolf). Am not sure if all the apps that run on fedora 8 can run on linpus,a few that i have tried have not work. What i would like to do is have this command (sudo vpnc epsvpn) be put in the script that will then be associated to an icon that i can click and have the script run, processing the command, that way i don't have to type in the command everytime.
