starting mysql
hi...
I've been having some troubles with mysql... I have truied some different types of installations.. First I've downloaded the binary version from mysql.org/net (whatever) and managed with much complications to run it.. but then, I tried to figure out how to start it again... But did'nt manage to do that.. all the documentation I read didn't apply to the mysql I downloaded... Thats annoying... Anyway.. I then decided to throw the binary version out and make way for a package version..
I used swaret to get mysql 4.0.17 and install it.. But now, I cant get it to run att all... The mysqld_safe should do it, if you run it at the right place. But I get this:
mysqld_safe
Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /var/lib/mysql
031228 00:52:52 mysqld ended
And I have run mysq_install_db
I'm getting really annoyed here.. It shouldn't be this way...
I assume you DID
`chown -R mysql:mysql /var/lib/mysql`
if you didn't su to mysql before running mysql_install_db ?
then run with
`/etc/rc.d/rc.mysqld start`
