starting kde 3.2 as a different user

Hi I need some help. I installed kde 3.2 yesterday as root. I'm wonderoing if there is a simple way to add a my regular user name to there. short of re downloading under my username. it seem like it possibly a permissions issue. I'm new to linux so I really don't know what I can and can't play with :D under root kde 3.2 works great. under brian it won't start at all. the old version starts. any suggestions would be appreciated.
