starting GUI

Hey, I just installed mandrake 9.2 with no problems. When I boot up though it boots to like the command line where it says login: I can log in with my name or root, but I dont know what to do after that. I am new to linux, and I just want to get in and mess around using GUI. I set it to install 2 of the GUI programs (cant remember the name now) GNU maybe? What i was wondering is what do i type after I login to get the GUI stuff to come up, and not the command line stuff.

Thanks

Hi,

Try "startx".

If you want your system to go straight to the gui, look at the file /etc/inittab.
There will be line in there "id:3:initdefault". Change the 3 to a 5.

Read the comment lines above this line so see what the numbers mean.

startx &
is even nicer. You may then return to the same black screen with ctrl-alt-F1 and use it. The & puts X 'in the background'.
