Start up problems with Ubuntu 8.1 on my desktop
 
I formatted my old desktop and put the most recent Ubuntu on it just to play around with. I turn on the computer and it starts up. The log in screen comes up but once I log in, it starts to act like its going and just stops at a blank orange screen.

2.8ghz Pentium Processor
512mb RAM
40gb HDD
HP

All the hardware it came with is in it, I haven't added or taken anything.

Hi heartxdark,

Can you give us the exact model of your computer? Maybe there are some known issues with Ubuntu and that model and we need to do some research. Personally, I think something is not working well with the graphics adapter, which I assume is an inbuilt one.

Okay.
It is an HP Pavillion a305w.


Also, it is a Pentium Celeron Processor.
