ssh timeouts

Having trouble with ssh on my Edgy Eft box. Sometimes ssh sessions freeze/lock up and I have to close the terminal window and reconnect. Also, sometimes when I ssh to this machine, I am unable to and the ssh attempt times out. I've checked that sshd is running on this machine, that the port forwarding on my wireless router is correct, and that the firewall rules on the machine are correct. If I physically go to the machine and move my mouse around or click on something, that seems to fix the problem, and I can ssh to it again but the problem reappears pretty quickly. Any ideas what's going on? When this machine was Dapper, I had no such problems.

Power management putting the system to sleep or hibernate ?

I don't think that's it. I had my wife move the mouse a little on the computer and it's still timing out when I try to ssh to it - also I have not set up any special power management or sleep settings, everything's default.

Have you tried ping'ing the machine that is not responding to ssh? Or using telnet (port 22)?
Anything in the logs on the machine that you're ssh'ing to?

it responds to ping - but I think that is the wireless router responding and not the machine itself. telnet domain.com 22 times out. I can't get in right now as I'm away from the machine but I'll check the logs when I get back - any logs in particular to check?
