ssh, openssh... telnet

I have installed a server install of Redhat 7.2. I want to put this pc outside my room and administer everything by command prompt. I wanted to setup Telnet but I've been warned off this idea by many posts. Can someone show or tell me or point me in the direction of an easy to understand method for achieving what I want via ssh?

well it's no harder to install than telnert, actually it's easier i think. just install the server and start it with "service sshd start" and the you shoul dbe able to log in to it no problem.

Thanks.

I should have been a little more specific. I had installed and started the service and also dloaded putty as I want to to connect to it from a win2k pc on my LAN. When I try to connect using the local machine, it allows me to do so but when using the win2k machine, the error saying that the connection was reset by the peer pops up. ANy ideas to allow the external connection?
