SSH issue

I have a fresh install of Redhat 9 that to my knowledge is running ssh daemon (see below ps output).

[paul@linux paul]$ ps -ef | grep -i ssh
root 2243 1 0 Apr04 ? 00:00:00 /usr/sbin/sshd

I am having a problem when trying to use SecureCRT from my Windows XP box to connect via ssh to the linux box for some reason.

Can anybody post any details that I need to check to ensure ssh connectivity or should this already be working?

One thing that you might want to try is to see if you can ssh to yourself. From your RedHat box, first try to ssh to loopback (127.0.0.1), see if this works. If so then try to ssh to your real IP address. If you have success here then you are likely having some form of communication problem between the two boxes, if this does not work, then the problem is likely located on the RedHat box itself.

Here are a few things you can try. If you have a firewall running, you have to open port 22 for the sshd. See if adding 'sshd:ALL' to /etc/hosts.allow does anything. There is a config file in /etc/ssh that you can look at also.
